I had an active week last week. I was in Los Angeles on Tuesday to do an interview with Scott Smith for California CEO magazine, where we discussed employee ownership in the context of SAIC. I also participated in a recorded discussion for the Tepper School of Business at the Carnegie Mellon University on Thursday, where we again talked about employee ownership. I was asked the usual questions about the book, and content of the chapters. I was asked why I started SAIC, where the concept of employee ownership came from, why I was so opposed to going public, what the secret sauce was for building the company, the role of the board, the committee structure — why it was so large — and so forth. If you’re interested, we may be able to get links to these interviews. If so, we will post them here. On Friday we took the boat to Oceanside for lunch. A couple of weeks ago we went to Catalina, and I have included a photo of our merry band.
On February 21, 2008, I will be a guest of the San Diego chapter of Financial Executives International, where I will participate in a “fireside chat” at the La Jolla Marriott. The event starts at 5:45 p.m., and at 6:15 p.m. the fireside chat begins. You may register for event by contacting Paul Pierpoint at 619-231-5953.
